Update on New York State Toll Waivers

Below describes the DOT vehicles and the Red Cross Volunteer toll waiver that has been approved and what the driver needs to say and provide to the toll collector for toll free travel.

Presently this includes other outside agencies, relief organizations and companies or volunteers responding to the relief effort for Hurricane Sandy. This is done by the driver of the vehicle advising the Toll Collector that they are a relief responder for Hurricane Sandy at the time when payment is expected. For both processes the procedure below is being followed.

For any of these requests the driver of the vehicle uses a staffed toll lane and at the time of expected toll payment, informs the Toll Collector that they are providing relief for Hurricane Sandy. If DOT vehicles with the letter from Don Bell or Red Cross Volunteers with Id this is when they present those to the Toll Collector. Others need to mention to the toll collector that they are providing relief for Hurricane Sandy. Toll Collector will fill out a brief, but necessary form noting this for internal use only and the vehicle(s) can then pass without delay or toll payment.
