SI Unity Hub

Occupy Sandy Staten Island is a volunteer-based group helping to rebuild and support the Staten Island community in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. We are actively interested in building relationships with other grassroots community organizations and sharing our network of legal aids, medics, translators, skilled tradespeople and volunteers with donation drop off/pick up spots, volunteer hubs, and community groups in need.

The main Occupy Sandy Staten Island hub is at 551 Midland Ave in Midland Beach. We share this space with a few other groups that are still active providing relief for Sandy-affected residents. At 551 Midland Avenue, we intake needs from residents, dispatch demolition teams, cleaning crews, and special requests & deliveries. If you have a need for any Sandy-related labor, please call us to fill out a request for support: 347-201-0670.

Help needed

There are a number of ways to volunteer in Staten Island, among them: demolition, mold remediation, warehouse organization, needs in-take, social media, Midland Community Garden activities, deliveries, etc. Please read the volunteering descriptions and suggestions here. Volunteering has dropped in recent months so we ask that all volunteers to sign up in advance by filling out this form (also linked below) or emailing  Another way to help effectively is by donating -- most people at this point have such varying needs that money (to buy services such as skilled labor) is the best way to help them.  Occupy Sandy works closely with the SI Long Term Recovery Organization to get needs met for those still in need.  You can donate to us below to earmark for this purpose and the money will go to unmet needs in Staten Island.  Unfortunately we've been one of the few donors to the LTRO -- please support us and them!  This is grassroots community help at it's best:)

Here is information on getting to Staten Island from Brooklyn, Manhattan, and New Jersey

We have an Occupy Sandy Staten Island/SI Unity Hub Amazon Registry where we have a list of needed items. Shipped donations can be mailed to: Occupy Sandy Staten Island 551 Midland Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10306. Thank you! We do not accept drop off donations unless scheduled in advance.  Otherwise, drops off donations are welcome at Midland Ave Neighborhood Relief (489 Midland Ave Staten Island) during their open hours.
